The project involved the construction of an underground pedestrian tunnel crossing Temple Drive in Green Meadows Subdivision. The scope included excavation of road, construction of reinforced concrete tunnel & stairs, finishing, provision of lighting & CCTV, tunnel drainage, demolition & restoration of existing structures and utilities. First Balfour opted to use pre-cast tunnel shafts which were laid into the excavation using an 80 ton crane. The tunnel was divided into 11 shafts with each shaft about 1.8 meters long and weighing 14.5 tons. An adhesive waterproofing membrane was applied outside of the walls and slabs to prevent water from penetrating the walls.
